Vaccine Equity Planner

A tool that maps and identifies "vaccine deserts" where people lack convenient access to vaccine sites across the country. The tool is flexible and allows you to add overlays of other data, as well, such as social vulnerability and vaccine intentions. In invaluable tool for those looking to better understand where we have gaps in vaccine access around the country to inform local or state policy action or access interventions.

What We Like About This Resource

This tool is powered by VaccineFinder data of active COVID-19 vaccination sites, combined with geospatial data and travel times provided by Google. The tool draws from a variety of public data sources for potential vaccination sites, general population characteristics, and area-based measures as well as pediatric practice locations identified by HealthLandscape. Combining these datasets, the tool presents vaccine deserts. We use the CDC’s Social Vulnerability Index to highlight particularly vulnerable deserts. We located primary care practices, pharmacies, schools, places of worship, and other potential vaccination venues within the deserts. As the situation evolves, we will adapt the tool to meet the changing factors and decisions that leaders must make. For more information about our data sources and methodology, please see our FAQs.
